Nach D48 und D52 kam die D49 1994 als dritte Dampfmaschine für Modellschiffe in das Programm. Wie die D48 auch bietet diese als 2-Zylindermaschine den Vorteil, dass die Maschine selbst anlaufend ist. Dieses ist wichtig, wenn man das Schiff auf dem See mal umsteuern will.
