D45 Prototyp

Wir alle kennen die erste Serie der D45: breiter Brennerschieber, offener Kamin und eine Kondenswasserschale aus Metall.

But did you ever compare those D45 with the Picture shown in the catalogue at that time?

Das Dampfrohr ist nicht gebogen, sondern mit einem Fuß eines Dampfventils abgewinkelt, und das Dampfrohr verläuft auf der anderen Seite zum Kessel.

There is no bending of the steam pipe, but they are using the foot of a steam valve as 90 connector and the steam pipe is going to the Boiler on the other side.

Die kante der Alu-farbenen Plattform ist nicht glatt, sondern es wurde die Struktur der Oberfläche mit umgebogen. Darüber hinaus ist die Leiter nicht genietet, sondern verschraubt.

The edge of the silver base is not smooth and flat, but the shape is also bended around, the ladder is bolted and not fixed by rivets.

Die Grundplatte besteht offenbar aus zwei teilen, welche zusammen geschraubt sind.

The baseplate is somehow made out of two parts and bolted together.

Auch der Fuß der Pfeife besteht aus dem unteren Teil eines Dampfventiles und ist nicht einfach gerade hoch wie bei den Serienmodellen.

The foot of the whistle is also made out of the foot of a steam valve and not just straight up.

Und zu guter Letzt sieht man auch keine Kondenswasserschale.

And last but not least there is no condenswater tray to be seen....

Habt ihr euch die D45 auf den alten Kartons mal näher angeschaut? Wir finden die o.g. Unterschiede zur Serienmaschine auch wieder. Allerdings gibt es da zwei weitere Unterschiede.

Did you ever have a closer look to the D45 shown on the old boxes? This one Shows the differences described above, but also two other differences.

1. Das Dampfrohr ist nun auf der "richtigen" seite angebracht.

2. Der Kopf des Kamins ist nun geschlossen, hat eine Sieb-förmige Seitenwand und ein kleines Loch oben.

2. the upper end of the chimney Looks completely different: with a mesh on the side and only a little hole.

Die meisten Wilesco-Prototypen wurden zur Prüfung beim TÜV genutzt und im Zuge dessen zerstört. Bei der D45 ist dieses nicht so. Hier hat ein Prototyp überlebt und ich habe ihn gefunden.

Most of the Wilesco prototypes have been used for test according the german safety regulations (TÜV) and have been distroyed by that. This time it is different. This prototype still exists and I was lucky to find it . So we can do a closer inspection.

Dann lasst uns die Sache mit dem Loch im Kamindeckel mal genauer betrachten. Die Abdampfleitung geht vom Aggregat weg nach unten wie heute auch. Allerdings endet diese nicht in einer Kondenswasserschale, sondern verschwindet im Kesselhaus.

So let us see why there is a hole on top of the chimney. The exhaust pipe is going down from the engine like at the production models. But it does not end in a condenswater tray (you remember about the missing tray?). Instead of that the exhaust pipe goes down somehow into the firebox.

Schaut man in den Brennraum, dann sieht man die Abdampfleitung, welche 2-fach gebogen wird und über dem Brenner im Kamin nach oben verschwindet.

Übrigens: habt ihr gesehen, dass das Kesselhaus vorne aus 2 Teilen zusammen gesetzt ist? Heute ist das einteilig.

Looking into the firebox you can see the pipe being bent two times to go above the burner and then straight up into the chimney.

By the way: did you realize the two-part-design of the firebox in the front, where it is made out of one part today?

Auch bei dem Prototypen kann man den Kamin abnehmen. Hier sieht man dann die Leitung aus dem Kamin kommen und in einer weiteren Leitung im Oberteil verschwinden. So werden die Abdämpfe durch das kleine Loch geleitet und die Abwärme der Maschine kann durch das seitliche Geflecht entweichen.

Like on the production models the upper part of the chimney can be taken off. Doing it at this engine you see how the exhaust pipe is connected to another pipe inside the top. By that the exhaust steam should have gone straight out of the top (that is what the hole is for) and the heat of the burner should have passed by through the mesh.

Das war wohl damals schon der Versuch eine aus dem Kamin rauchende D45 zu realisieren.

Seems to be an early attempt to realize a steam engine where the steam really passes through the chimney.

Die Verpackung, in der ich die Maschine gefunden hat, hat auf der Innenseite den handgeschriebene Verweis "Handmuster".

The box I got with that model shows up with a handwritten "Handmuster" which means some kind of prototype in german language.

In der Verpackung fand ich dann auch eine Bedienungsanleitung. Und genau diese Maschine wurde wohl auch für die ersten Bedienungsanleitungen genutzt. Allerdings wird hier eine Kondenswasserschale aufgezählt, nicht aber abgebildet.

Inside the box I found a user manual for the D45, which shows the engine like this prototype. Including the special mountong of the whistel and the steam valve, both on valve foots. But the manual already shows the written hint to the condenswater tray (not shown).
